Description: This webinar will describe community-based participatory research efforts in Miami Dade County to assess the needs and preferences for intimate partner violence prevention among Hispanics,and culturally tailored interventions that were developed and evaluated to address these. The historical development of an academic-community partnership to address intimate partner violence prevention in Miami Dade County, along with the community-engaged approaches, methods utilized, and results will be discussed. Lessons learned and recommendations will be provided from both academic and practice perspectives.
About the Presenter: Rosa M. Gonzalez-Guarda, PhD, RN, CPH, FAAN, is an Associate Professor at the University ofMiami School of Nursing and Health Studies and Co-directs the training and community engagement components of the school’s Center of Excellence for Health Disparities Research: El Centro. Her research focuses on the intersection of intimate partner violence, substance abuse, and risky sexual behaviors among Hispanics, and the development of community-based and culturally tailored interventions to address these issues. Dr. Gonzalez-Guarda is an alumnus of the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration Minority Fellowship Program, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars Program, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
